De moeder van Mattie(mary)is overleden, maar na haar dood erfde Mattie een huis van haar moeder waar haar moeder het nog nooit over had gehad. Mattie voelde dat er iets niet lekker zat. De volgende dag ging ze met Bram,haar vriend, op zoek naar het huis dat lag in Porthland. Toen ze er met de auto naartoe reden kwamen ze langs een park. Bram moest stoppen want Mattie herinnerde zich het park. Nadat ze in het park hadden rondgelopen gingen ze naar het huis en belden aan. Er woonde een man en een vrouw die het huis hadden gehuurd. Mattie en Bram waren binnen geweest en hadden een gesprek gehad met de man. Toen ze weg gingen kregen ze van de man nog een doos vol met brieven en foto’s van haar moeder die achter gebleven was in het huis. Tussen al de brieven en foto’s die ze hadden bekeken, zat een brief bij die naar de ouders van Mattie’s moeder was geschreven. Er stond in dat Mary van huis was weggelopen omdat ze meer vrijheid wilde, maar er was nog iets raars aan de brief want de datum van de brief was precies hetzelfde als de geboortedatum van Mattie. Maar dat zou niet kunnen want dan hadden de ouders van haar moeder dat wel in de gaten gehad. Ze gingen opzoek naar informatie over de geboorte datum van Mattie, maar het enigste wat ze kregen was dat ze 2 jaar later was geboren. Het was allemaal een beetje raar, maar de laatste tijd gebeurden er wel meer rare dingen. Ze zag een gezin in het zwart-wit dat andere mensen niet zagen. Op een dag gingen Mattie en Bram naar het politie bureau om te kijken of ze daar meer informatie hadden. Toen ze daar waren herkende een van de agenten Mattie. De man liet een foto zien van haar, maar het was nog niet helemaal duidelijk want op de foto was ze nog maar 2 jaar. De agent legde uit dat er ooit een meisje van 2 jaar was ontvoerd. Mattie was blij dat ze meer wist maar ze was toch verdrietig. De agent kwam met een paar krantenartikelen van een tijd geleden, Mattie bekeek de artikelen. Ze schrok ervan want op de knipsels was de zwart-wit familie van haar afgebeeld. Het was allemaal een beetje raar de laatste dagen. Maar om alles zeker te weten moesten ze bewijs hebben. Toen ze het volgende knipsel bekeek stond ze daar met haar ouders. Ze zag het armbandje op de foto en ze herinnerde het zich meteen, want ze had het bij hun in huis zien liggen. Ze ging direct naar huis om het armbandje te halen. Nu had ze een bewijs en was alles opgelost en kon ze haar echte ouders opzoeken.

The man showed a picture of her, but it was still not entirely clear because the picture was she was only 2 years. The agent explained that there was ever a girl of 2 years was kidnapped. Mattie was glad they knew more but she was still sad. The agent came up with a few newspaper articles of a time ago, Mattie reviewed the articles. They got scared of it because on the clippings was the black and white family of her depicted. It was all a bit weird the last days. But to everything to know for sure they had to have proof. When she looked at the following cutting, she stood there with her parents. She saw the bracelet in the picture and they remembered it right away, because they had it in their in house. She went straight home to the bracelet. Now she had a proof and everything was resolved and she could look up her real parents.
