In de vroege ochtendvan maandag 16 april 1945 reed er een jeep met een Canadese soldaat Bolsward binnen. Het was Harry McEwen van de North Shore New Brunswick Regiment. Hij was de eerste Canadees die Bolsward - na vijf Duitse bezettingsjaren - bij daglicht binnenreed.
