De Conferentie van Évian vond plaats van 6 tot 15 juli 1938 in Évian-les-Bains aan de zuidkant van het meer van Genève, op initiatief van de Amerikaanse president Franklin D. Roosevelt bespraken vertegenwoordigers van 32 landen de sterk toegenomen emigratie van Duitse joden en vooral ook hoe men de toestroom van vluchtelingen .. in de loop van de conferentie bleek dat geen enkel land bereid was nieuwe vluchtelingen op te nemen, uiteindelijk maakte de conferentie vooral duidelijk dat de westerse democratieën nauwelijks bereid waren om de door het Derde Rijk in het nauw gebrachte joden te helpen
